First Lego League 2006 – 2011

The DreamTeam is a team in Cape Town made up of people grades 3 – 9 who are competing in the First Lego League (FLL) robotics competition. We are from various schools, yet we still have only one aim – to win.
Just to give you a bit of a history of this team:
In 2006, Kiddiwinks got involved in FLL for the first time. They started off with the idea that they would train one team. But, the interest was so great that they ended up training four teams in Cape Town. The teams were made up of learners aged 8 -14 years. It was a learning experience for both the team members and the volunteers assisting. All coaches were volunteers and gave up a huge amount of time preparing material and attending all the training sessions. The teams did very well at regional level with 3 of the teams qualifying for nationals and 1 of these teams coming home with the Research Innovation trophy. In 2007 there was not enough time to train more than one team. However, they did very well and came 2nd on the table with their robot and 2nd place overall in the Cape. In 2008 two Kiddiwinks teams were entered. One of the teams was us, the DreamTeam, and we won the Regional challenge and came 3rd at Nationals bringing home the trophy for our research. Three of our current team members have been together as a team now for five years and we have won a trophy every year. Last year we won the Regionals as well as the top Robot Performance award.
